08:42 am - Another Saran Wrap Update Teens face charges in crash Friday, July 15, 2005By Ed Ronco The Grand Rapids Press WYOMING -- Two of the three teens police accuse of injuring a motorcyclist by stretching plastic wrap across a two-lane highway in the middle of the night were arraigned Thursday.
Nicholas Gortsema and Andrew Wiltjer, both 17 and Wyoming-area residents, face one count each of felonious assault.
Police said Gortsema, Wiltjer and a 16-year-old boy stretched industrial-strength plastic wrap between two signs, across a section of Canal Avenue SW in Wyoming.
The name of the 16-year-old, who is being charged as a juvenile, was not released.
Wyoming resident Jim Anderson, returning home from some errands on his motorcycle about 1:20 a.m., crashed into the plastic wrap.
The motorcycle skidded and Anderson suffered broken ribs and internal bruising in the incident.
"I have never felt angry toward these boys," Anderson said Thursday.
"I trust the criminal justice system will hold them appropriately accountable for their actions, and that they will learn from these proceedings."
Anderson, 48, said he still had pain, but he was getting better and should be back to normal in four to six weeks.
The bike should be repaired in a week, and when Anderson is able, he will be back on it, riding "even more carefully than I have already," he said.
A family member at Wiltjer's house declined to comment. Gortsema could not be reached Thursday.
The teens are scheduled to appear at a preliminary examination of the evidence against them at 1 p.m. July 27 in 62A District Court in Wyoming. Current Mood: informed
